• The Symphonic Band is a concert ensemble comprised
of more than 60 band students in grades 9-12.
• The instrumentation and curriculum is intended for developing student musicians and focuses on
the development of fundamental musical vocabulary and instrumental technique, expressive
performance and mature rehearsal habits through performance of grade III-IV concert literature.
• Previous enrollment in a school band class or an audition for the director is required to be
a member of the ensemble.
• The ensemble performs 6 concerts annually, including a performance at the NC Bandmasters'
Music Performance Adjudication in late March and a concert focused on student chamber groups.
• Over the past decade, The Symphonic Band has performed in and attended cultural tours
to Chicago, Atlanta, Washington D.C. and Orlando.
• The Wind Ensemble is Fuquay-Varina High School's premier concert band
and is comprised of about 45 of the most advanced band students in grades 9-12.
• Instrumentation is limited to a traditional "wind ensemble" format with one or limited numbers
of players on each part.
• The curriculum is intended for mature, advanced student musicians and focuses on the development of
advanced musical vocabulary, instrumental technique and expressive musicianship through rehearsal
and performance of grade V-VI concert literature.
• An audition for the director is required to be a member of the ensemble.
• The ensemble performs 6 concerts annually, including a performance at the NC Bandmasters'
Music Performance Adjudication in late March and a concert focused on student chamber groups.
• Members of the Wind Ensemble regularly earn seats in the Central District All-District
Bands, North Carolina All-State Bands, UNCG Carolina Band Festival Honor Bands, Triangle Youth
Brass Band and Triangle Youth Brass Ensemble.
• Over the past decade, The Wind Ensemble has performed in and attended cultural tours
to Chicago, Atlanta, Washington D.C. and Orlando.
